Carson Storch Signature Model Logo

Identity / Footwear

Carson Storch is one of the best freeride mountain bikers in the world. When Ride Concepts was able to sign him onto the Factory Team we knew we had to do a signature shoe for him. While the product team collaborated with Carson on the shoe, I had the privilege to work with him on the artwork for the insole. He’s a big fan of 80’s metal and does a lot of his own trail building so I wanted to bring those two elements of his personality together. The solution was to illustrate a hand throwing horns, in a tattered bike glove, paired with some custom lettering reminiscent of the Slayer logo.

After a few rounds, we settled on the Slayer direction for its simplicity

From there it was time to illustrate the hand. The tattered glove represents his passion for trail digging as gloves get pretty beat up when working with rocks and tools. I brought a sketch into Adobe Illustrator and slowly refined and simplified the illustration until it would work well at a smaller size, screen printed on the insole. Carson was so stoked he decide to put the logo on the outside of the shoe as well in a rubberized TPU emboss.

The original sketch on the left was much too detailed, but provided a good starting point to refine the drawing
